The Josh Dormagen Scout Leadership Award
Boy Scout Troop 420, the friends and family of Robert Joseph “Josh” Dormagen, II, establish this award. Josh was an Eagle Scout of Boy Scout Troop 420 sponsored by the Laurinburg Presbyterian Church. His leadership record in the community and academic record at Scotland High School made him a respected member of our society and a leader among his peers.
A. Applicant and Recipient Selection Criteria
The Josh Dormagen Scout Leadership Award Committee shall select recipients.
Applicants may apply, be nominated by a fellow Scout or be
selected solely by the award committee.
Applicants must be a Scotland County resident and must be a registered Scout in a Scout Unit within Scotland County affiliated with Boy Scouts of America programs.
Recipients should be students who have demonstrated leadership in the community, at school and in their Scout troop.
Recipients should show promise of academic success and have been accepted to a college for post secondary education.
Applicants for the award shall complete an award application and present it to the Troop Committee Chairman of Boy Scout Troop 420 between March 1 and April 1 in the year of the award. Selection shall be announced prior to June 1 in the year of the award.
B. The Award
1. The recipient will be awarded a cash gift.
2. The committee will award the recipient an appropriate plaque to recognize his scholarship and leadership achievements. The cost of the plaque will be paid for from fund interest.
3. The first award will be presented in the spring of 2000.
C. Award Committee
1. The Award Committee shall consist of five committee members.
2. The Scoutmaster of Boy Scout Troop 420 shall serve as a member of the award committee and serve as vice-chairman of the award committee.
3. The Troop Committee Chairman of Boy Scout Troop 420 shall serve as a member of the award committee and serve as chairman of the award committee.
4. The Advancement Chairman of Boy Scout Troop 420 shall serve as a member of the award committee.
5. Two Eagle Scouts or parents of Eagle Scouts shall be appointed annually to serve on the award committee. These members shall not have sons who are active Scouts. One award committee member will be appointed by the Troop Committee Chairman of Boy Scout Troop 420 and the other award committee member will be appointed by the Scoutmaster of Troop 420.
6. If any member of the award committee has a son applying for the award, they shall be disqualified from serving on the award committee that year. The Troop Committee Chairman shall appoint an Eagle Scout or parent of an Eagle Scout to serve on the committee in place of the disqualified committee member.
D. Administration of the Funds
1. The fund can accept contributions throughout the years that are made payable to the Laurinburg Presbyterian Church and are designated for the Josh Dormagen Scout Leadership Award.
2. The fund shall be invested and managed by the Laurinburg Presbyterian Church.
3. The income only will be used to provide the award(s) and the principal is not to be invaded.
4. The Laurinburg Presbyterian Church shall acknowledge gifts made to the fund.
5. The immediate family of Josh Dormagen and the Troop Committee Chairman of Boy Scout Troop 420 shall be notified of the name and address of all donors to the fund so that their gifts may be acknowledged.
6. The Laurinburg Presbyterian Church shall disburse a check in the amount of the award payable to the award recipient’s college of his choice upon request of the Award Committee Chairman.
7. The Laurinburg Presbyterian Church shall disburse a check for payment of the award plaque and charge this amount to the award fund.
E. Amendment of the Award
The Troop Committee of Boy Scout Troop 420 may make changes to this award with the approval of Joe and Jackie Dormagen.
