Josh Dormagen
Josh Dormagen was born
Robert Joseph Dormagen II on December 4, 1981, in Rocky Mount, N.C. He was
named after his grandfather. He had the opportunity to live in several towns
and cities during his childhood due to his father’s employment, however, Laurinburg,
N.C., which he moved to in November of 1993, was by far his favorite. Josh was
an excellent student; he was ranked number two in his class after his sophomore
year, he scored over 1200 on the S.A.T. as a freshman, and he was a member of
the Math and Quiz Bowl Teams. He participated on the Cross Country and Track
Teams and was a member of the First United Methodist Church and an active
member of the church’s Youth Group. The most wonderful part of Josh was his
personality, kindness and humor. Unfortunately, those attributes are hard to
capture on paper. Josh’s love for his family, friends and life were
unprecedented, but next would be his love for scouting. He joined Troop 420 in
September of 1994. He became an active participant in all of the Troop’s activities.
He moved swiftly through the ranks and was tapped for the Order of the Arrow in
the summer of 1997. He achieved his Eagle rank in June of 1998. His ceremony
that month was one of the highlights of his life and a proud moment for him and
his whole family. Josh died in a tragic automobile accident in July of 1998. In
his Eagle Book, his life’s goals were simple, "…after college, I would
like to return home to a small town in North Carolina, practice medicine, stay
active in church and scouts, and work on cars." That small town was
Laurinburg. Hopefully, as a recipient of this Award, you will be able to use it
towards achieving your goals, wherever they may lead you.
